I am descended from Catherine (Catty) Growney born c1825 in Knocknagartan. Catty married Bernard Lynch from Stramatt, about 5km away from her homeplace. They set up home in Stramatt.
This information was passed down to me from my Grandmother who was from Stramatt. She also told me about a nephew of Catty’s – Ped Growney, who lived in Knocknagartan – I think the last Growney to live there.
Before DNA testing, I couldn’t ‘prove’ that Catty was Michael and Jane’s daughter because a chunk of records were missing from the Munterconnaught Parish at the time of Catty’s baptism. DNA matches have know confirmed the relationship, even though all roads led to Michael and Jane.
